5 Nintendo DS Games You Can't Buy In Stores - But Can Have With an R4 DS Card
The NDS by itself is a reallt great game system. But add to your Nintendo DS the actual R4 DS Card and you'll have access to hundreds, if not thousands, of homebrew games and applications - all of them free.
1) Lemmings DS - The classic is back.Come, amazing gameplay, mixed with Strategy!
Lemmings was one of the best games on the Amiga personal computer - later ported to the C64 and then the IMB PC's of the day.It was later remade for the Commodore C64 and IBM PC's too. I honestly think this game set the stage for many of todays classic strategy / brain games. All 120 of the original Amiga levels have been carefully redone for the Nintendo DS. So you essentially get every single level that was originally designed and made for the Amiga system, and the c64 too. A must have for any serious comical strategy game lover.
2) Quake DS - Not the first, but the original First Person Shooter Game To Set The Standard!
The original and must have version of Quake for the PC - one of the first games that set the bar for FPS games.There really isn't anymore to say.Quite possibly the best game and in my opinion that game that inspire the whole first person genre.It is now available for the NDS / NDSi but you'll need an R4 DS Card to play it with. Carefully and masterfully re-done for the Nintendo DS console.
3) Xrick - A Port of Rick Dangerous for your Nintendo DS - It was arguably one of the best platform games / side scrollers on classic computers like the C64 and the Commodore Amiga
Another one of those classic games that you just can't seem to get out of your system. Just put xRick on yoru R4 DS Card and plug it into your Nintendo DS and start playing one of the best platform side scrolling games of all time.Rick Dangerous was the must have side scroller of the day.Anyone that did not have a Nintendo DS system had either one or both of these games in lieu of.Side scroller that is really taken to the extreme. Challenging, great graphics, and loads of fun!
4) DSLinux - This puts a portable Linux Computer in your pocket by way of your Nintendo DS
Ah yes, DS Linux. Before cards like the R4 DS Card, it was unimaginable for us to be able to load linux onto a system that fit in the palm of our hands.While there are several ports of this even for linux and differend game systems, you can't really truly enjoy it that way you can with an R4 DS in your NDS because of the amazing touch game play. Because you can use your Stylus as mouse, you really get the full benefit of loading all of your favorite linux games, applications, etc... On the Nintendo DSi console.With the R4 DS you can really take Linux to a whole new platform. If you have a Nintendo DSi, then you'll need the R4i SDHC version of the R4 DS Card.
5) ScummVM - Your point and click solution to the best point and Click Games!
If you absolutely love point and click games, like Monkey Island, Beneath a Steel Sky or others, then you have to try ScummVM.ScummVM is the ScummVM project. The ScummVM project is an attempt to re-engineer many classic point and click adventure games of the 80s and 90s to run on modern computer hardware. Technology has changed a lot since these games were written, and so ScummVM attempts to replicate the gameplay of the original games in exacting details, without any of the original code that the game ran on. What you will find with the ScummVM emulator is that you do actually need a copy of the original game so that ScummVM can utlitze the graphics, sounds, and scrips that made the game work. ScummVM is written in such a way that it can be 'ported' from one type of machine to another, and ScummVM DS is a port of ScummVM to the Nintendo DS handheld games console.
